Upcoming things to do

This Saturday (10/13/12) At The American Textile History Museum on Dutton St. in Historic Lowell is Steampunk Fashion Day!
October 13, 2012, 11:00 am to 4PM
Re-imagine history with steampunk fashion designers at the American Textile History Museum. The artistic, literary, and cultural movement known as “steampunk” combines science fiction, fantasy, and history to create a world that never was. It imagines a 19th century full of airships, clockwork androids, and steam-powered computers. As part of the on-going “Dickens in Lowell” celebration, the American Textile History Museum will host a display of steampunk fashion on Saturday, October 13th. Designers from around New England will exhibit steampunk designs and there will be a panel discussion with the designers about steampunk fashion at 1:00pm. Wear your own steampunk costume for free museum admission!

Lowell Steam will be there dressed and Ready!

Also that very same day is a new art exhibit opening at Pollard Memorial Library

“Wicked Dickens”
Saturday, October 13, 2012, 2:00 p.m., free admission
Pollard Memorial Library, 401 Merrimack Street, Downtown Lowell, MA
Join Pollard as they enjoy the creepy villains of Dickens’s masterpieces through dramatic readings of various scenes from his works. Also, check out the Dickens Villains Heads in Jars.

Next Saturday is our next show: Frenchy and The Punk at Ward Eight!

A request for support – not for us, but for Eli August and The Abandoned Buildings.

Eli August has begun an indiegogo fundraising campaign for a new album. He was instrumental (hah!) in making Lowell Steam happen. I/we have contributed, and strongly suggest you do as well! Some grand perks are included.

Recap from our first show.

So last Sunday was “A Steampunk Dichotomy” with Eli August and The Abandoned Buildings and Hellblinki. While the turnout was lower than I had hoped for, I would say we had about 50 people in total.

A certain highlight was the unexpected arrival of one Montague Jacques Fromage the purveyor of SteampunkFUNK Bizarre. It seems his airship was blown astray and he ended up in our fine city. Thinking quickly, we pressed him into service as Our MC for the evening!

We will be back for more.
Next up is Frenchy and The Punk on October 20th.

This years theme is Post Apocolyptic. I was asked if I could do a teaser flyer for them, and graciously agreed. Find out more info in the coming months at their website.

About Eli August:

The music of Eli August is akin to the waters of a great river. It’s always moving and pushing forward, whether through percussive guitar and banjo, or the urgency of delicately crafted lyrics; the music never looks back.

Eli is often backed by an ever changing East Coast collective called The Abandoned Buildings, who bring rich and earthy orchestrations to the settings imagined in August’s songwriting, from the deep undulations of the ocean, to the quiet mystery of the forest and the openness of the dry and dusty road.

Whether solo, or  along with the Abandoned Buildings, Eli will have you tapping your foot, singing along and reminiscing of your own long ago journeys.

About Hellblinki:

the three that make hellblinki

Hellblinki as they stand.

The Hellblinki Sextet… Broken tooth blues in a Tux, Choral fantasies for agnostic angels, peg-leg waltzes on the rim of Mt. Vesuvius,  psycho-cabaret, southern fried with guerrilla operatics, pirate-blues, infused with punk rock cinematics.  The Hellblinki Sextet is prone to suprise, tension, and dramatic release. Dark and experimental, Hellblinki combines elements of American folk, European cabaret, and punk rock experimentation into an intoxicating brew of transcendent madness…
